A beautiful bobbin lace linen doily with an impressive and refreshing design, featuring two morning glory-like flowers and a cross, handmade in Italy or Belgium from the 1800s to the early 1900s. Beautiful bobbin lace flower motifs from Italy or Bruges, Belgium... The rim features flowers resembling morning glories, bindweeds, or evening glories, or perhaps nasturtiums. The smaller motifs might be buds. Thread flowers bridge the gaps between the flowers, like scattered stars, fireworks, or sunlight. Thick outlines create beautiful shadows and definition, with tiny picots along the edge. A beautiful round doily where the flower motifs accentuate the cross. The color is a clean off-white, or ecru with a delicate yet crisp feel. The material is likely linen. The central cross shape is densely and smoothly woven with fine thread. The rim may be made of linen or a cotton blend yarn. It is woven with a smooth, slightly lustrous yarn that is dry, soft, and supple. Please excuse any errors in the amateur measurements below for this handmade item. Diameter approx. 21.7-21.5 cm 6.5g There is one repaired spot of about 2mm. Otherwise, there are no noticeable stains or scratches, and it is in good condition for an antique piece. Please excuse any overlooked minor imperfections.
