Charles Scribner's Sons. • First published in 1942, Cross Creek Cookery was compiled by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings at the request of readers who wanted to recreate the luscious meals described in Cross Creek -- her famous memoir of life in a Florida hamlet. • Illustrated with drawing by Robert Camp. Illustrated endpapers. • The Table of Contents and Sample recipes shown in the photos. • Sample recipes from the Southern backwoods cooking talked about in the book: >Swamp Cabbage, Camp Style >Mother's Jellied Chicken >Blackbird Pie • 8 1/2 x 5 1/2 inches. 230 pages. Cloth covered hardcover. • Condition: Fair. the cover is soiled. Piece missing from top of spine cover. The pages are clean with little signs of kitchen use. The binding is cracked at the back cover. Lovers of old-fashioned, down-home cooking will treasure the recipes for Grits, Hush-Puppies, Florida Fried Fish, Orange Fluff, and Utterly Deadly Southern Pecan Pie. For more adventuresome palates, there are such unusual dishes as Minorcan Gopher Stew, Coot Surprise, Alligator-Tail Steak, Mayhaw Jelly, and Chef Huston's Cream of Peanut Soup.
