Vintage Apple Whimseys real apple faced collectible shelf sitter doll with a sewing theme Copyright 1978, Lita Gates Granny's fuzzy white hair is hidden under a full bonnet, and she's dressed in polkadots and pinafore Themes: sewing, patterns, quilt, ribbon, thimble, straight pins, scrap material, ribbon, quilt batting, scissors, bird, pin cushion Made by doll artist Donna Yackey, and retains her original hang tag From the tag: This whimsical apple-faced doll is an updated version of the Appalachian folk art. The apple has been dried and coated with a protective finish. The body made full with corn husks. Its unique personality develops as the face is carved. Because the apple is organic, it is subject to natural changes with age, gaining character as it matures. Because pins were necessarily used in construction, the doll cannot be considered as a child's plaything. My wish is that it will bring you as much pleasure as I experienced creating it.
