This is a miniature Juniper bonsai, specifically a Juniperus rigida. Here are the details: 1. Plant Information 1. Name: Nez / Common Name: Nezumi-sashi (Juniperus rigida) 2. Classification: Cupressaceae / Evergreen small to tall tree (10m) 3. Distribution: Honshu to Kyushu / Sunny mountainous areas 4. Characteristics: Dioecious (male and female plants are separate) 5. Flowering Period: April / Fruits ripen to purplish-black in 2-3 years 6. Uses: Building materials / Tools 2. Product Overview 1. Cultivation Method: Cuttings from young shoots 2. Cultivation Period: Grown for approximately 3 years, then potted and cultivated for about 7 years (as shown in the photo) 3. Tree Height: Approximately 5cm 4. Trunk Thickness at Base: Approximately 0.5cm 5. Branch Spread: 8 x 5cm 6. Pot: Seto ware / Brown / Square, 7.5 x 8 x 5cm 7. Photo Date: April 11, 2026 Juniperus rigida is known as Tosho (杜松) in the bonsai world, but is also commonly called Muro or Muro no ki. Nezu is the official name. The name Nezumi-sashi (mouse stopper) originates from the fact that the leaves of this tree are hard and needle-like; it is said that placing branches of this tree in mouse pathways will stop mice.
