Thank you for viewing. This reed is made from carefully selected, high-quality reeds from the Udono region. After being air-dried for approximately 1.5 to 2 years, it has been smoked over a traditional Japanese hearth (irori) for over 10 years. This process imbues it with both superior sound quality and durability, making it a top-tier product. We have also paid close attention to the materials used for the cap, cement, and Japanese paper, utilizing the finest materials cultivated over many years. We believe our past customer reviews will attest to the quality of our reeds. To elaborate a bit, smoking can be done in various ways. Some methods involve using smoke from waste wood, fallen leaves, or dried leaves, or artificially smoking reeds in a smoker for a few months or years. While these are all forms of smoking, true smoking is different. It involves the natural resins from trees felled in the mountains rising with the smoke and settling onto the reeds over many years, nurturing them into a resilient and flexible material. Customers who have used reeds made from such meticulously crafted reeds, including repeat buyers, have given us numerous rave reviews, such as: What were the previous reeds I used? and This is my first time experiencing a reed like this... the tone is completely different! We can also accommodate requests for thicker or thinner reeds, so please let us know your preference when ordering. While these reeds are finished to be playable immediately by beginners and women, please be aware that they do not produce sound with light or weak breaths. As our master instructor says, To produce a truly resonant tone, it is essential to blow with full breath. Although the price per reed may be slightly higher, we offer returns and exchanges if you are not satisfied. We are confident that you will be pleased with these reeds, so please give them a try.
