Ichimatsu Doll, Taisho to Early Showa Period (1926–1930), Mitsuore (Three-Jointed), Signed “Shouyousai” with Seal, Fuigo Cry Mechanism, Chirimen Kimono, Glass Eyes, Human Hair Height approx. 34 cm (Size 10) The doll has a gentle and beautiful face that evokes a sense of transience. Its charm lies in the serene expression and quiet black eyes characteristic of the Taisho period. The construction is paper-mâché and cotton-filled with a three-jointed body. The head is finished with a thick coating of paulownia or paper paste. While the painted surface shows age-related dullness, the single-color black glass eyes retain their transparency, giving a beautiful and clear impression. The facial area is relatively clean. (See photos) Although some restoration has been done, the face has not been completely repainted. It is believed to have been made in the late Taisho to early Showa period, featuring characteristics of the time such as a three-jointed structure (movable arms, waist, and hip joints) and human hair applied to Japanese paper. The Ichimatsu Doll has a fuigo (cry bag) built inside, preserving its original structure. The sound mechanism currently works, but it is expected to stop functioning in the future. The chirimen kimono is a three-color combination of purple, green, and gold, a classic color scheme from the Edo to Meiji periods. The deep green features a疋田 (dotted) pattern, with the lower part in a solid purple疋田 pattern. The obi has a geometric pattern on a gold background. *The kimono cannot be removed. Based on its condition and features, it is presumed to be an old Ichimatsu Doll from the Taisho to early Showa period. Signed: Shouyousai Seal: Difficult to decipher due to old characters, cursive writing, and faded ink. Tokyo, Kiri Shine from hair implantation is visible. Human hair.
