This is a listing for a Kōmoto Gorō Sometsuke Yonpō Mizusashi (Square Water Jar with Blue Underglaze), including its original box, cloth, booklet, and exhibition catalog. Featured in the 2009 Aichi Prefectural Ceramic Museum exhibition catalog Special Exhibition: Kōmoto Gorō Exhibition on His 90th Birthday, page 73. Kōmoto Gorō, adopted son of the potter Kōmoto Rekitei, also worked with porcelain, blending the traditions of Seto with modern forms and sensibilities. He was an internationally acclaimed artist representing contemporary ceramics. While Sometsuke is synonymous with Kōmoto Rekitei, his successor, Kōmoto Gorō, carried on the tradition of vibrant Sometsuke while also forging his own path, demonstrating a rebellious spirit in his work. This water jar was an exhibited piece in the special exhibition and is the highest-ranking work featured in the catalog. We hope it finds a good home. This Sometsuke piece was purchased from a shop with a guarantee of authenticity for approximately 150,000 yen. Due to circumstances this summer, we are offering it at a reduced price. As it is a featured work in the exhibition catalog, its value is undeniable, and its provenance is clear, offering peace of mind. Please understand that we cannot accept price reductions. 1919: Born in Seto City, Aichi Prefecture, as the second son of Shigegorō Shibata. 1936: Graduated from Aichi Prefectural Ceramics School.
