Thank you for looking. This is a Kagura mask: Tajikarao-no-Mikoto. This is an Iwami Kagura style mask. Kagura originally began with ancient people dancing to pray for good health and rejuvenation of the soul, and it is said that these rituals of appeasing spirits and shaking soul-balls are the origin of various Shinto ritual performing arts. The mask is made by creating a mold from clay, carefully layering Japanese paper, applying a coating of dissolved funori (seaweed glue), and then painting it. Horse mane is used for the hair of the Kagura mask. It will naturally settle slightly due to gravity. *This item is listed as a decorative mask. A decorative board will be included free of charge. Simple modifications (such as making it wearable) can also be accommodated upon consultation. In such cases, additional charges will apply for material procurement, so please understand. If you wish for these modifications, please leave a comment before purchasing. ① Adding an inner rim for a snug fit on the face + attaching elastic to secure it at the back of the head: ¥2,000 ② Attaching elastic to secure it at the back of the head: ¥1,000 ③ Making it a kuwae-men (mask held in the mouth): Attaching a board to the mouth area for holding: ¥1,000 If you purchase without a comment, we will include the free decorative board.
