An antique from Belgium, circa the 19th century. This is a beautifully crafted, classic, and lovely round doily made with bobbin lace from the ancient city of Bruges, featuring an authentic all-mesh design. The bobbin lace depicts a floral and grassy pattern, with flowers resembling daisies scattered throughout. Shading is achieved through varying the looseness of the mesh, while the soft curves of the small flowers, stems, and curled leaves are elegantly expressed. The delicate lace edging alternates between three loops and a single loop. The color is a pale milkshake hue, reminiscent of the original linen color, retaining its natural plant-based tone. It has a classical and natural feel with a light ivory or pale beige shade. Delicately and airily woven with medium-fine linen thread, it gives a cool impression and a sense of relaxation. The petals and leaf veins have openwork, and the gaps between motifs are connected by mesh bridges, creating a gentle aesthetic. The stitches are not tight, with a half-stitch feel that provides a pleasant coolness. It is light, smooth, and dry to the touch, yet soft, with a gentle and airy appearance that also has body and firmness. Likely made from natural linen, or a linen and cotton blend. In beautiful condition with no noticeable stains, discoloration, or damage. We imagine it to be in its original, unused state. Even if it has been washed, we believe it has not undergone harsh treatments like bleaching and is close to its original condition. We consider it to be in good condition for a handmade antique piece, but please examine the images and forgive any minor imperfections. The water city of Bruges.
