Thank you for looking. This is a vintage Leedy snare drum purchased about 20 years ago. It is believed to be from the 1950s. Regarding the sound, it has a dry, non-muddied tone, yet it is rich, thick, and deep, which I really loved. I personally enjoyed the sound when muted and hit hard. It's that sound you hear on 60s and 70s rock records. When the mute is off, it can also transform into a sharp, cutting sound, making it versatile for a wide range of music. The reason I wanted to get this snare when I was in my 20s was because I was captivated by the sound of Russell Simins, the drummer for the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion (now Blues Explosion). In an era with very limited internet access, I gathered information from magazines and other sources, and learned that Russell seemed to be using very old jazz drum sets. Believing this unverified information, I rushed to the music store with my part-time job earnings. Give me any old wooden snare drum, I said. That's when I had this fateful encounter with this snare. I visited the store for months, just trying it out... I decided to buy it in the fourth month. Leedy was a manufacturer I hadn't heard of before, which was exactly what appealed to my contrarian nature. Leedy is a long-established American drum manufacturer that predates Ludwig. It's a niche but well-respected brand known to those in the know. On overseas sites, the same model from the same era and color has sold for $4000. Above all, the gradient, faded color is beautiful and a sophisticated design that could only have been born in the 1950s. The rubber part of the strainer mechanism is starting to deteriorate, but I believe it is usable as is. It is original. The snares are Ludwig and not original. Other than that, given its age, there are some paint chips and many old parts, but I don't see any parts that are crumbling or falling apart. Please judge from the photos, understanding that it is a vintage item. Feel free to ask any questions you may have. This is a snare drum that sounds absolutely fantastic. I hope someone will play it to its full potential. Thank you. Click here for the manufacturer's site Easy to find furniture and interiors! Click here for Askul's general furniture TOP page.
