Sheep farming, wool processing, flax cultivation, and weaving. The reality of a highly self-sufficient cyclical lifestyle where everything from food to clothing is completed within the village. The recording of the forms of attire for winter solstice, Easter, weddings, and funerals, unique mystical rituals blending indigenous beliefs, and the beauty of wooden architectural culture and geometric patterns and textile designs stretching from Scandinavia to the Balkans. It also documents the historical background of the region as the birthplace of Prince Bogdan, considered a root of the Romanian nation, and the sophisticated identity of the Maramureș people with their town-like sensibilities. ◉Author: Kosei Miya Born in Obihiro in 1937. Essayist and photographer. He has traveled through the Balkan countries since 1965, visiting the Maramureș region of Romania dozens of times since 1971. He is not merely a tourist but a photographer who has lived with villagers like family, speaking the local language while taking photos. He continues to document nail-less wooden architecture, shepherd traditions, and unique rituals as a living medieval era. In 1999, he received the Grand Cross of Cultural Merit from the Romanian Ministry of Culture, making him a leading figure in this field. His works clearly show a deep trust that conveys the very breath of the local culture.
